With over 240 congregations in the county, the variety of denominations reflects the diverse heritage of Newberry County.
The old Dutch Fork area in eastern Newberry County was settled by Germans in the eighteenth century and is still dominated by the Lutheran Church. Our Scotch-Irish ancestors insured the addition of Presbyterian, Methodist and Baptist congregations. Other denominations found in the county include: Associated Reformed Presbyterian, Episcopal, African Methodist Episcopal, Roman Catholic, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Assembly of God, Jehovah's Witness and many other non-denominational and independent churches.
